I have been getting swamped with sobig infected
e-mail. Sometimes I get e-mail that claims that
my computer is broadcasting infected e-mail.

I updated my Norton virus definitions, then did
a complete scan - all that showed up as infected
was some incoming e-mail, no local infection.

Question: if my computer was sending viral e-mail,
would it show up in the "sent" file of my e-mail
programme? (I am using Netscape 7.01)

Thanks!

Best Regards,

Most of the more recent e-mail worms don't use your
e-mail program to send themselves (they have there
own SMTP engine), and so won't leave anything in
the "sent" file.

SOBIG.F infects a host computer, looks in any address books it can find, finds
your email address, then forges your address into outgoing email

nope, it uses its own smtp engine

if you have a firewall which requires you to give permission before an
application can access the internet, that would stop it

It's not. read the other threads on the topic.

No, and you wouldn't get the bounce messages either because when the
worm sends a message if fakes the return address with one from the
same list it is sending to.
