I have cleaned up a machine of my friend.
I've d/loaded FixBlast.exe from Symantec.

I've disabled RPC.
I've d/loaded the patch from MS.
I've updated Norton 2003.
Run patch from MS.
Restarted computer.
Reset RPC to previous values. (Restart the Computer)
Scanned full scan with Norton.
No virus was found.

For one day machine was working OK.

Now again the computer displays the message about
shutting it up as before. Norton is displaying the message
that he found the virus and cleaned it up.

Machine still shuts up.

What was weird, I never saw in registry any mentioning of
mblast.exe. However 'windows auto update' was set up.

Seems to nothing can fix that bastard or I'm doing something wrong.

Norton's FixBlast.exe is reporting that no virus is found after scanning.

Any idea what is happening!?

TIA

You may have been hit by nachi and/or sobig which appeared yesterday morning
(19/08)

My desktop support friends had to spend many hours last night sorting out
200 odd PC's.

They are doing the following:

Applying MS patch if not already done
Running Stinger from Network Associates web site (www.nai.com)
Updating virus definition files where necessary

Unfortunately we got hit between the time we got a virus alert and getting
the virus updates into network. Missed it by about 40 mins !
