I'm getting this starnge thing where the cursor arrow creeps across
the screen diagonally when the pc is at rest (ie when I'm not using
the mouse)

I run windows xp and am using a chic optical mouse.

Any ideas?

Regards

Problem is most probably something to do with your optical mouse and
the surface you are using it on. Try using a regular ball mouse and
see if you have similar problem. To double check for malware (viruses,
trojan etc) go to the address below and use the Sysclean_FE tool.
Report back any results.

I've seen that with touchpads and fingersticks (like the old IBM
Thinkpads, dunno what they're called) as well as... er, mice sliding
slowly across a pad under the influence of gravity ;-)

Slow mouse drift doesn't sound malware, but etc.
